I may be very dense. But I cannot seem to find Help > For Internet Explorer users. Any reason why?

  2. Anders Says:

Help – Help Contents – Help for Internet Explorer Users

Offical Build 2004-03-27 is out: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=64780

I find it amusing that the Linux build still has the “Help > For Inernet Explorer Users” in it. Obviously, if I’m on linux, I never will, never wanted to, don’t care about, and hate IE.

  5. Jeff Walden Says:

The Help bug mentioned in the entry is fixed for Mozilla only. If Help exists in Firefox builds (it’s not in this installer build), it’s not fixed. With some luck it might be fixed by the end of nex week, tho, with the checkin of a new version of Firefox Help.

MNG ( http://www.libpng.org/pub/mng/ ) support is about to be restored ( http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18574 – 674 voters) as Alexander Opitz has just “TODO: Clean up some makefile.in’s etc.” A good alternative to proprietary Flash animations.

  7. tim Says:

Thanks – just in Mozilla. Good, I had never noticed it before and when it was mentioned I checked it and I could not find it. Figured something was up.

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040322 Firefox/0.8.0+

has a “For Internet Explorer Users” item in the Help menu. I don’t have to open Help Contents to access it.

  9. tim Says:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040318 Firefox/0.8.0+ and I don’t have it. So I will have to update my build. I will just have to download another build and give it a try.

  10. Jesse Ruderman Says:

Jeff is right. The bug wasn’t fixed in Firefox. The menu item “Help > For Internet Explorer Users” still gives a blank page.

so johnny has used internet explorer on windows all his life. he hears about his thing called linux and tries it out. he also hears that firefox is the best browser to use on linux, so he tries that out too. then johnny hears that tabs are really cool, but can’t figure out how to use them. hey look! Help for Internet Explorer Users. how handy.

  12. Andrew D. Keyser Says:

That’s certainly a possible situation, but the regular every-day joe shmo / johnny isn’t just going to try linux for the heck of it. Usually they’ve become very experienced with how computers work (not just the operating system) and /then/ is when they decide to try it out. And by that time, they probably know enough about browsers in general and how to search the internet for resources that a “For Internet Explorer Users” on Linux is a bit disgusting to them and any hardcore Linux user would agree. I prefer not to have any mention of Internet Explorer on another browser (Firefox) on a platform that IE doesn’t even exist for.

  13. Andrew D. Keyser Says:

Oh, and I’m quite joyed that MNG is back in, as some of you may know I was a fairly large supporter and I’ve had some big debates on MozillaZine :P

  14. Jeff Walden Says:

    >I prefer not to have any mention of Internet

That’s another fix in the newest version of Help. The help topic is still present in all builds (why not?), but the menu item will only show up for Windows and Macs – where IE is/was an option.

-The bug in the Help development trunk

-The bug in b.m.o (we’re trying to keep bugs only in Mozdev, but it’ll be harder with Help as part of a stable build)

  15. Jesse Ruderman Says:

Andrew: MNG isn’t back in yet (I didn’t see a checkin). Also, I don’t think it will be enabled by default.

  16. Andrew D. Keyser Says:

Well I make my own builds anyhow so once it’s back in I’ll just do it myself ;)
