Did you follow these instructions to activate the Check for Updates mechanism?;

Thanks Sean, I thought it was correctly enabled by default in the newer builds.

The update system doesn’t seem to work correctly in the 2005-08-06 windows build. It downloaded something which was 5.9MB, larger than downloading the whole 4.8MB install file, and then offered to restart the program. I said OK, it restarted and immediately told me a new version was available, so it seems it dod not correctly update the program. I noticed that the build date did not change either. I don’t know if it’s supposed to, but I assumed it was even though it’s only updating some of the code.
I just installed the 2005-08-08 build, so I don’t know if trying the update a second or third would have properly updated the program. At least with 2005-08-08 it knows that I have the most recent build. Sorry if all of this was off topic since I’m talking about another build.

Auto update didn’t work for me. When I go to https://aus-staging.mozilla.org:8711/update2/0/Firefox/1.0%2B/2005080721/WINNT_x86-msvc/en-US/update.xml by pasting it in the location bar, I got the following error (Network access message)
Error Code: 502 Proxy Error. The specified Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) port is not allowed. ISA Server is not configured to allow SSL requests from this port. Most Web browsers use port 443 for SSL requests. (12204)
What should I do? Anybody pls help.

Please contact your network administrator (or whoever set up the ISA server) and ask them to allow that https port. Also, please file a bug in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ (product: firefox, component: software update) suggesting that Firefox use a standard port for automatic updates.
